During Term 3, we will be looking at consolidating and extending our knowledge of the structure and features of narrative texts, particularly focusing on different types of endings. We will also be focusing on non-fiction texts such as those putting forward points of view for discussion and argument, recounts, diaries and letter writing.
During our unit on 'Extending Narrative', some of the learning targets we will be focusing on are, to be able to:
- Identify the structure and features of a narrative text
- Use powerful verbs to give the reader a vivid impression of the action
- Write a short stories with a cliffhanger and a surprise ending
- Write and punctuate direct speech effectively
- Explain and comment on writers’ use of language
- Identify a range of literary features used to create effect, e.g. figurative language, alliteration, onomatopoeia
- Make improvements to a piece of writing as it progresses by developing techniques for editing, proofreading and making revisions
